A 20-year-old resident of Orange was wounded in a shooting on 12th Avenue on Wednesday evening, according to police.

The victim was shot in the foot at about 6 p.m. on 12th Avenue near Rosa Parks Boulevard, said police director Jerry Speziale.

Police said the victim was transported to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center. He was treated and released from the medical center, said the director.

Speziale said the shooting is under investigation.

The director said the city is kicking off its Safe City Initiative today which will help law enforcement get better handle of crime in the Silk City.

Speziale also pointed to the designation of 12th Avenue as a crime hot spot which is likely to drastically reduce shootings in the crime plagued street. There’s been a 79-percent reduction in non-fatal shootings in designated crime hots spots, according to police data.

what a joke.if there even is a drop, depending on what crooked method they use that shows the best figures in their favor,it's because the police have become so focused in the bad areas.the smarter criminals left & moved to do their crimes in nice areas, where police are absent.
criminals go where police aren't. we have no police presence after wayne ave into hillcrest.there was never a problem with epidemic crime here until recently. ask the people in Hillcrest about the difference now as compared to 2 or 3 years ago. so yeah, why not ask people who are living it & know it, instead of trying to get us to swallow your fudged, flawed figures.
