A student from the Paterson Charter School for Science and Technology has been accepted to Cornell University upping the number of Ivy League students produced by the relatively new high school to three.
Nicole Garcia, who is the valedictorian for the high school’s 2016 graduating class, plans to major in Nutrition Science with a focus on Dietetics at the Ithaca, New York-based institution.
A member of the National Honors Society, Garcia has been heavily involved in extracurricular activities including Silk City Stars Drama Club, Animal Rights Club, The World is Our Classroom Club, and the Embrace Relief Club.
The high school senior also self-published a poem collection called “Shards” which is on sale at Amazon. Her poems focus on teenage dilemmas like chaotic relationships, self-esteem, betrayal, heartache, and nostalgia.
“Nicole is an excellent student and role model here at Paterson Charter School for Science & Technology. We could not be more proud of her accomplishments over the past four years and are excited to see what her future holds,” said Riza Gurcanli, lead person at the Paterson Charter School for Science and Technology.
Garcia plans to become a dietician. She hopes to serve humanity by enlisting in the Peace Corps at some point in the future.
