A surveillance operation on Jasper Street led to the arrest of two men on weapon and drug charges on Tuesday night, said police director Jerry Speziale.

Police arrested Xavier McCray, 22, of Presidential Boulevard, and Miguel Garcia, 21, of Plesinger Place during a surveillance operation at about 11:55 p.m. at the intersection of Jasper Street and Union Avenue.

McCray was charged with having a loaded Highpoint 9 mm handgun with seven rounds, said the director.

Garcia was found in possession of drugs, according to police.

Police officers Ryan Duffy and Thomas Giaquinto conducted the surveillance operation in plainclothes that yielded the arrests and the handgun.

“Plainclothes is an effective method of policing and has proven to be successful,” said Speziale.
