City police arrested nine people on drug charges during their weekly narcotics sweep, according to police director Jerry Speziale.
Police seized 25 glassines of heroin, 42 baggies of marijuana, and $191 in cash from May 24th through May 31st, 2016.
Arrested on drug charges were city residents Mathew Mitchell, 31, of East 26th Street; Keanu Batchelor, 21, of Vreeland Avenue; Dabarr M. Jones, 27, of Warren Street; Carlos Merced, 52, of Mercer Street; Kesean Brisbon, 25, of East 25th Street; Justin F. Troisi, 22, of Broadway; and Anthony M. Brown aka “Brown,” 47, of Governor Street.
Also arrested were Ramsey Ayyad, 34, of Clifton and Vincent M. Phillips, 45, of Garfield, according to police.
Ayyad, Mitchell, Batchelor, Phillips, and Jones were charged with marijuana possession at 428 10th Avenue on May 24, 2016. Phillips and Jones were also charged with distribution. Police said Jones was caught with drug paraphernalia.
$119 in suspected drug money was seized from Jones and $72 was taken from Phillips, said police.
Merced and Brisbon were arrested on heroin charges at the corner of Mercer and Franklin Streets on the same day, according to police.
Troisi and Brown were arrested on heroin charges at 189 Governor Street on May 27th, 2016.
“The pressure will continue and intensify as we approach the summer months to ensure we continue to combat the drug situation at all levels,” said Speziale.
