Police arrested two city men and confiscated three handguns during a traffic stop on Rosa Parks Boulevard late Tuesday night, said police director Jerry Speziale.
Oswaldo Correa-Martinez, 55, and Alex Torres, 42, were inside a vehicle suspected to be involved in a drug incident. Detectives pulled over the vehicle on Rosa Parks Boulevard and Market Street at about 10 p.m.
Police spotted a handgun in plain view during the stop. Three guns were confiscated from the two men: a 9 mm Tech 9 type semi-automatic, a .380 handgun, and a 22 caliber Northern Arms 22, according to police.
Speziale said the .380 was stolen out of Atlanta, GA; the 9mm was stolen out of Little Rock, AK; and the 22 caliber was stolen out of Los Angeles, CA.
Police also seized hollow point bullets and a large capacity magazine. 7 glassines of heroin was confiscated during the stop as well.
Both men were charged with various weapons and drug offenses. Correa-Martinez faced the additional charge of having a weapon with a previous felony conviction, according to police.
“This arrest may have stopped a violent act in our city,” said Speziale. “The men and women of Paterson’s finest will continue to put the pressure on those who carry firearms illegally.”
