Detectives arrested a 29-year-old homeless man and charged him with murder on Thursday for the stabbing death of a man at his East 16th Street home, said police director Jerry Speziale.
Elvin Rodriguez is accused of murdering 49-year-old Wesley Holmes at his home on June 25th, 2016.
Holmes was found stabbed to death in the basement apartment of 51 East 16th Street at about 5:40 a.m., authorities said at the time.
Police said Rodriguez’s last known address was 38 Highland Street.
“The investigators involved in this case worked tirelessly to bring closure to this heinous crime,” said Speziale. “Those that believe they can commit a violent crime in the city and go unapprehended are fooling themselves.”
Speziale praised detectives sergeant Steve Iucuzzo, Benny Ramos, Todd Pearl, Richie Martinez, Jason English, and members of the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office for Rodriguez’s arrest.
