A carjacking occurred late Sunday night on Broadway and Main Street resulting in a swift police response that led to the arrest of a Hackensack man and recovery of the stolen vehicle within 26 minutes, said police director Jerry Speziale.
Paul Myhand, 34-year-old, allegedly carjacked the victim at about 9:59 p.m. in downtown Paterson. Police said the victim walked two blocks to the police headquarters and reported a suspect made off with his 1998 Toyota Camry.
Police broadcasted the carjacking over the radio with a description and the vehicle’s direction of flight – east on Broadway. Sergeant Richard LaTrecchia and officers William Niebanck, Jose Torres, and Anthony Castronova found the suspect stopped at the intersection of 16th Avenue and Carroll Street at about 10:25 p.m.
Myhand was placed under arrest. The victim positively identified the suspect, who had carjacked him, resulting in Myhand being charged with carjacking, according to police.
“The quick thinking and ability to put the facts together brought this to a quick and successful conclusion,” said Speziale. “I am proud of the hard work and tireless effort of the men and women of the department.”
