The city agreed to pay $7,500 to a woman who alleged she tripped and fell over a pothole while crossing the intersection of Pennington Street and 17th Avenue.

Maria Reyes states in her lawsuit she tripped and fell on a large pothole at the crosswalk on December 30th, 2012. She alleges the city “negligently, carelessly and recklessly” failed in the maintenance and upkeep of the intersection which created a “dangerous and hazardous condition.”

Reyes sustained “severe and permanent personal injuries” as a result of the fall, according to her complaint. She had to spend large sums of money for medical treatment, according to court records.

The city council approved the $7,500 to settle Reyes’ claim in a special meeting on Tuesday night.
