Police officers conducted a weekend special operation saturating the hotspot crime areas with law enforcement officers on Friday and Saturday seizing a handgun, an assortment of drugs, and issuing ordinance violations, said police director Jerry Speziale.

Speziale said 9 people were arrested on drug charges. He said police confiscated 289 glassines of heroin, 62 baggies of crack, 66 baggies of marijuana, and 12 Ecstasy pills. $1,467 in suspected drug money was seized, he said.

Police also seized a loaded .357 Colt Python handgun from 34 Jefferson Street, said the director. He said officers from the Narcotics Unit, Ceasefire Unit, Emergency Response Team (ERT), Traffic Unit, and Anti-Gang Unit issued 51 ordinance violations during the duration of the operation at the city’s 17 hotspot crime areas.
