A 26-year-old city man was wounded in the hand late Saturday night on Beech Street, according to police.
Police said the victim was wounded in the hand at about 10:15 p.m. on Beech Street close to Essex Street. Police officers searched the area, but no victims were located. Minutes later, police received a call from St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center that a shooting victim had walked into the emergency room.
The victim was riding his bicycle in the Beech Street area when he heard several gunshots and realized he had been struck in the hand, said police. He traveled to the hospital seeking treatment for the wound, said police. He was treated and releases, according to police.
This is the city’s first shooting in October after a violent August and September. Police continue to investigate the shooting, said police director Jerry Speziale.
