A 15-year-old Clifton boy shot himself inside an apartment on Fair Street in Paterson late Sunday afternoon, according to the Paterson Police Department.
Police said the victim was inside the residence at around 4:50 p.m. when he shot himself in the head area. The boy was immediately taken to St. Joseph’s Regional medical Center for treatment.
He is in critical condition at the hospital, police said on Monday evening. Detectives determined the boy sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound which occurred while he was handling a firearm.
Anyone with information is being asked to contact detective Steven Leishman of the Detective Bureau at 973-321-1120.
Correction (Nov. 14, 2016): A previous version of this report stated the victim was a "Paterson boy" when in fact he is a resident of Clifton.
