A three-day sweep targeting “deadbeat parents” behind on child support payments yielded 81 people, according to Passaic County Sheriff Richard Berdnik.
Berdnik said the sweep was part of a statewide effort that occurred in the first week of April. Detectives also arrested 2 people with active criminal warrants and 1 person with marijuana, cocaine, and a loaded firearm.
“Parents need to know, that they will be held responsible for supporting their children. Court orders are not optional, and the Sheriff’s Office will continue to make sure that they are fulfilled,” Berdnik said.
Berdnik said those arrested on child support warrants were brought before the court. Authorities said those unable to make payments were allowed to schedule payments as condition of release.
