The Passaic County Community College is hosting renowned poets Jan Beatty and Major Jackson as part of its Distinguished Poets Series at the historic Hamilton Club Building for poetry reading on Saturday, May 6, 2017.
Beatty has published five books of poetry through the Pittsburgh University Press. She has received the Pablo Neruda Prize for Poetry from the Tulsa Arts and Humanities Council, the Agnes Lynch Starrett Poetry Prize, and Creative Achievement Award in Literature from the H. J. Heinz Foundation.
For the past 20 years, Beatty has hosted the Prosody, a radio show featuring national and international poets (guest included U.S. Poet Laureates, Pulitzer Prize winners, MacArthur Grant recipients, National Book Award winners), on NPR affiliate WESA-FM. She’s English professor at Carlow University.
Jackson, poetry editor for the Harvard Review, is the author of four poetry collections. He has received the Cave Canem Poetry Prize and was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award in Poetry. His work has appeared in various publications including The New Yorker, American Poetry Review, and Best American Poetry.

The poetry reading will begin at 1 p.m. at 32 Church Street in downtown Paterson. The event is free and open to the public and parking is available at the parking lot on College Boulevard between Memorial Drive and Church Street.
