Paterson man charged with attempted murder for alleged stabbing

30-year-old city resident Richie McCloud was arrested at Roberto Clemente Park on Wednesday for allegedly stabbing another resident on Madison and Cedar Streets, according to police director Jerry Speziale.

Police said McCloud badly stabbed the 38-year-old victim who was dropped off to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center at about 8:30 a.m. by an unknown person. The victim’s condition was critical due to the multiple stab wounds.

Lieutenant John Zahn was at the hospital when the victim arrived at the emergency room. He notified detectives Ed DelValle and Benny Ramos. Police officers Andres Brea and Anthony Nestico learned the victim was dropped off at the emergency room by an unknown party.

Lieutenant Louis DeLucca and sergeant Ed Fitzsimmons located the crime scene on Madison and Cedar Streets.

DelValle and Ramos developed information that led them to Roberto Clemente Park. The stabbing suspect was at the park, police learned. Police officers Diosnedy Lanfranco and Angel Gonzalez located McCloud and placed him under arrest.

Police charged McCloud with attempted murder, endangering the welfare of a child, and possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose.
