With Thanksgiving just two days away, hometown rapper Fetty Wap donated 500 turkeys on Tuesday night. Wap, who was not present for distribution of the turkeys at the Masonic Lodge, had his representatives hand them out to families in need.
“He likes to give back. He’s very generous,” said Fatima Brown, a representative for Wap’s charitable endeavors, of the rapper. This is the third year Wap, whose real name is Willie Maxwell, donated turkeys to needy families.
Brown said the giveaway has increased over the years. For example, the first year Wap gave out 200 turkeys; the next year, he distributed 300.
Families lugged away their turkeys inside PriceRite bags from the Masonic Lodge. The turkeys were purchased from ShopRite, but delivered from the new downtown Paterson PriceRite.
Some parents brought their children to meet Wap. Many left disappointed at not having met the rapper. Other notables associated with Wap like rappers Monty, M80, and Nit Da Grit were present at the distribution.
Councilman Michael Jackson, who was at hand at the event, said there is much need in Paterson. “A small gesture like this goes a long way for a family,” said Jackson. “He is increasing his efforts. I respect him for it.”
