A man from Union City was found guilty of first-degree murder in the 2015 stabbing of a Paterson teenager on Tuesday, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.
Samuel Rua III, 33-year-old, was convicted of first-degree murder and several weapons offenses by a jury following a day of deliberations.
Rua faces 30 years to life in prison for murder, authorities said.
Rua stabbed to death Nadjhier Barner-Timmons, 17, of Paterson, on April 25, 2015 at the train tracks by East 26th Street and 18th Avenue in Paterson, authorities said.
Barner-Timmons and Rua had walked together to the area.
Police arrested Rua the next month on East 26th Street between 19th Avenue and Market Street.
Sentencing for Rua is scheduled for April 27, 2018. He has been remanded to the Passaic County Jail after his $1 million bail was revoked by Passaic County Judge Sohail Mohammed.
