School 28 was briefly placed on lockdown on Friday afternoon following report of gunfire outside.
Police received information of gunfire on Clinton Street little before 1 p.m. Police did not find shell casings or other indicators of a shooting, according to a law enforcement source.
“We made a determination there was nothing to it,” said James Smith, head of security at the Paterson Public Schools.
Smith, a former police captain, said the school was placed on lockdown for 10-15 minutes.
Police gave the school the green-light to come out of the shelter in place procedure.
The school went into lockdown as a preventative measure, said Smith. “I commend them for doing that,” said Smith.
Police added extra attention to the area around the school for dismissal time.
