A city man was killed in a shooting on Fair Street late Wednesday night, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.

Police said Asmar Williams, 26-year-old, was found lying at the intersection of Fair and Auburn streets with multiple gunshot wounds at around 10:34 p.m. He was rushed to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Williams was pronounced dead at 11:14 p.m., authorities said.

Williams found himself involved in the city’s gun violence long before Wednesday night.

In 2011, Williams was arrested, when the New Jersey State Police in conjunction with the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, conducted multiple sweeps targeting the Fruit Town Brims, a set of the Bloods street gang.

Detectives arrested Williams and another man for firing weapons at unknown subjects on two separate occasions, according to information made public at the time.

Police continue to investigate the murder. Anyone with information is asked to call the Paterson Police Detective Bureau at 973-321-1120.

Report updated at 9:38 p.m.
