The school district is renovating the exterior of School 19, replacing the long retaining wall that surrounds much of the more than century old building.
School officials awarded a $689,694 contract to Alimi Builders of Wyckoff earlier in the year to replace the retaining wall and fence at the school.
The project is funded by the New Jersey School Development Authority.
Steve Morlino, facilities director at the Paterson Public Schools, said the renovation includes resurfacing the parking lot at the school. All sidewalks will be replaced as well, he said.
“Substantial completion will be before school starts,” he told the school board earlier in the month.
School 19 on James Street was built in 1896, according to district records.
