The police arrested 82 people in a large bust at a well-known Auburn Street drug den on Thursday, according to police director Jerry Speziale.

Speziale said police seized 259 vials of crack cocaine, 2 bags of crack cocaine, and 930 glassine envelopes of heroin during the bust at 83 Auburn Street.

Police said six of those arrested were alleged drug dealers.

Christian Cody, 24; Chandra Edwards, 45; Lamar Nero, 40; Gary Simpson, 51; Jerome Reed, 62; and Delquan Montgomery, 26, all of Paterson, were charged with various drug possession and dealing charges.

Edwards and Reed reside on the third floor of 83 Auburn Street.

Police confiscated $151 in suspected drug proceeds from Montgomery, $446 from Simpson, $330 from Cody, $43 from Reed, $86 from Nero, and $1,295 from Edwards.

Speziale said police conducted the operation in two phases. First phase focused on the dealers and the second phase on buyers.

Police arrested 76 buyers. 46 buyers arrived at the drug den from Paterson and 30 from as far away places as Maine.

4 people came from Clifton, 3 from Passaic City, 2 from Saddle Brook, 2 from Totowa, and 2 from Newark. One person each came from Bogota, Budd Lake, Englewood, Hawthorne, Lake Hopatcong, Lodi, Mahwah, Montague, Ogdensburg, Saddle River, South Plainfield, Sussex, and West Milford.

2 came from New York State and 1 from Maine.

Speziale said police began investigating drug dealing at 83 Auburn Street following numerous complaints from resident.

“The department, administration are committed to working together in making a safer Paterson,” Speziale said. “The numerous community watch groups and partnerships are amazing and well attended to find solutions and attack the issues.”

Exactly. In a few days they'll be back on the streets, even though many are repeated offenders.

seize the buyers cars and dealers assets (gold chains, cars, teeth etc) under forfeiture laws and sell them to balance the Paterson budget.
