Nazir-Carter

A Hackensack man has been arrested and charged with first-degree attempted murder for allegedly shooting a 23-year-old Paterson man early Saturday morning, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.

Nazir Carter, 20-year-old, is also charged with second-degree unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose, and certain person not to have weapons.

Authorities said he brazenly shot the victim while police officers were investigating an earlier shooting in the area of Summer Street and Godwin Avenue. Police responded to 67 Carroll Street at around 4:44 a.m. and rushed the victim to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center for treatment.

The victim sustained a non-fatal gunshot wound, authorities said.

Carter faces a maximum of 60 years in state prison if convicted on all of the offenses, authorities said.

Prosecutors will file a motion for pretrial detention.
