A man has been arrested and charged after cutting off an unmarked police vehicle on Rosa Parks Boulevard, according to public safety director Jerry Speziale.
The driver, Pedro A. Roman, and his passenger, Xavier Mendez, both of Paterson, were charged with marijuana possession and child endangerment, Speziale said on Thursday morning.
Roman was also issued motor vehicle summonses for driving with drugs in a car. Mendez is also charged with resisting arrest and aggravated assault on a police officer, police said.
Detectives were driving in an unmarked vehicle on Rosa Parks Boulevard and Lafayette Street, when Roman allegedly cut them off. Roman allegedly continued to drive in a reckless manner, police said.
Detectives smelled a strong marijuana odor as the vehicle cut them and passed. A 4-year-old child, unsecured in the vehicle, was observed.
A motor vehicle stop was conducted. Police recovered a jar of marijuana and marijuana cigarettes.
Roman and Mendez were arrested.
