Paterson police arrest two with stolen gun, hollow-point ammo

The police arrested two people, including a 17-year-old, for alleged possession of a stolen semi-automatic handgun and hollow-point ammunition, according to public safety director Jerry Speziale.

Dazon Johnson, 21, and a 17-year-old boy, were arrested in the area of Rosa Parks Boulevard and Hamilton Avenue at around 1:40 a.m. on Saturday. Both Paterson residents were charged with weapons offenses, possession of  stolen firearm, possession of marijuana, and possession of hollow point ammunition, police said.

Police confiscated a 9mm semi-automatic handgun from the pair. The weapon was reported stolen out of Atlanta, Georgia in 2018.

Detectives pulled their green Honda sedan in the area. Earlier in the evening, police broadcasted a description and registration of the vehicle over a previous incident in the Totowa neighborhood.

A handgun was observed in the vehicle during the stop. Both occupants were removed from the vehicle.

Police also found a small amount of marijuana in the vehicle.

Johnson is being held at the Passaic County Jail pending a hearing. The juvenile is being held at a detention center in Essex County.
