A city man was arrested on Thursday afternoon for having several marijuana plants inside a parked vehicle on Madison Avenue, according to public safety director Jerry Speziale.
Racheen Harris, 39-year-old, was charged with marijuana possession, intent to distribute more than five pounds of marijuana, intent to distribute in a school zone, and resisting arrest.
Harris was sitting in the driver’s seat of the Hyundai Sonata parked on Madison Avenue between Park and 16th avenues at around 4:10 p.m. As police approached, Harris tried to get out of the vehicle.
Police ordered Harris back into the vehicle, but he began running north on Madison Avenue towards 16th Avenue. Sgt. Joel Santiago gave chase while calling for back up.
Other police officers appeared on the scene and joined the chase. Harris was arrested on East 18th Street and 16th Avenue.
Police found several marijuana plants in the car’s front and rear seats. Police towed the vehicle to headquarter for processing and evidence recovery.
