45-year-old Paterson man killed in shooting on Governor Street


A city man was killed in a shooting at the intersection of Governor and Carroll streets on Monday night, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.

45-year-old Robert Covington was found lying near the sidewalk with apparent gunshot wounds at around 9:14 p.m. when police responded to report of a shooting in the area. He was rushed to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center for treatment, but succumbed to his injuries.

Covington was pronounced dead at 9:49 p.m., authorities said.

The homicide is Paterson’s third in 2020. First homicide occurred on Godwin Avenue on January 18 and the second on February 18 on 12th Avenue.

Police continue to investigate the incident. Anyone with information is asked to call the Paterson Police Detective Bureau at 973-321-1120.
