The number of people tested positive for the new coronavirus in Passaic County has doubled to 18, including four cases in Paterson, according to health officials.

State health officials on Wednesday afternoon reported 10 new cases in the county over the past 24 hours.

Paterson reported its fourth case, according to officials. A person in their late 40s tested positive for Covid-19. Previously, a married couple and their five-year-old child tested positive for the virus.

A new case was reported in Hawthorne, according to officials.

Details were not available for each of the new cases.

Health officials previously reported a 40-year-old Passaic City man tested positive. He is ill, but not hospitalized.

A 50-year-old Clifton woman tested positive. And a 29-year-old Clifton woman tested positive.

Passaic County officials are in the process of setting up a drive-through testing pod at William Paterson University to screen people. County officials are seeking medically trained personnel — including retired medical professionals with credentials – to volunteer for the effort.

Overall, New Jersey reported 427 positive cases of the new coronavirus on Wednesday. Five people have died. And 21 tests are pending at the state lab, according to New Jersey Department of Health.
