A mosque held a gathering for a funeral that likely exposed attendees to the new coronavirus, according to a health alert issued by health officials on Sunday evening.

Municipal officials said the event was held on Thursday, Mar. 12, 2020 at the United Islamic Center (Ulu Cami Ana Sayfa Mosque) at 408 Knickerbocker Avenue in Paterson.

A person who attended the event has tested positive for Covid-19.

Health officials urge anyone who attended the mosque for the event to call their local health department.

Residents of Paterson, Totowa, North Haledon, Prospect Park, and Totowa should call the Division of Health in Paterson at (973) 321-1277 to leave a message with their name and phone number for a health official to contact them.

Municipal officials have ordered houses of worship to cease holding in-person gatherings.
