The police broke up a large group that gathered at Wrigley Park on Montgomery Street amid the coronavirus crisis on Thursday evening, according to public safety director Jerry Speziale.

Antoine Harris, 30, of Paterson, was charged with obstructing a governmental function and weapons offenses. He allegedly had a loaded 9 mm handgun, police said.

Police observed the group at the park at around 7 p.m. Officials ordered all parks closed and banned all gatherings.

Harris tried to walk away when detectives exited their vehicle to break up the crowd at the park. He also tried to discard the weapon, police said. Police immediately approached him and after a brief struggle placed him in handcuffs.

Harris was taken to police headquarters and processed. He is being held pending a court hearing.

Police are in the process of submitting the weapon to the state ballistics lab for examination.
