Mayor Andre Sayegh, who tested positive for the new coronavirus earlier in the month, has fully recovered.
Sayegh revealed he had Covid-19 on April 7. His positive test came as a surprise because he had been taking precautions, wearing gloves and masks in public. He did not have any of the typical symptoms such as fever, dry cough, and shortness of breath.
“My sense of smell has returned. It was the only real symptom I had,” said the mayor on Monday.
Sayegh said an initial x-ray showed he had pneumonia on his left lung. He was prescribed hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin. A later examination showed the same area had cleared. He also took vitamin D, multi-vitamins, and Emergen-C 1,000mg Vitamin C to strengthen his immune system to fight the virus.
Health officer Paul Persaud said the mayor has taken a second test that came back negative.
Sayegh continued to run the municipal government from home over the past two weeks. He will return to work on Wednesday and deliver 200 isolation gowns to the staff at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center.
