Paterson: Eastside High School principal dies of Covid-19

Gerald-Glisson

Gerald Glisson, who served as the principal of operations at Eastside High School, died of Covid-19 on Sunday night.

Glisson was 46. He had been hospitalized for two weeks, according to school officials.

“Words cannot describe the magnitude of this loss,” said superintendent Eileen Shafer in an email to district staff.

Glisson leaves behind his wife Michelle and two daughters. His wife also works for the Paterson Public Schools as interim supervisor of bullying.

“It’s a huge loss,” said school board president Kenneth Simmons.

Glisson had worked for the district for four years, records show. Simmons said Glisson had worked for the district before that but that he had briefly left the school district for Neptune. He returned in 2016.

“He was a really great guy,” said assemblyman Benjie Wimberly, his voice breaking with intense grief. Both men are close friends.

Glisson resided in the Eastside neighborhood of Paterson.
