Paterson police seize 3,491 bags of heroin, 7 pounds of pot, $8,600 cash in East 13th Street bust

The police conducted a massive drug bust on East 13th Street that yielded four arrests, a loaded handgun, 3,491 glassine envelopes of heroin, 7 pounds of marijuana, and $8,596 cash on Wednesday, according to public safety director Jerry Speziale.

Police arrested Joseph E. Tinsley Jr., 31, of Paterson; Tasheema M. Wells, 30, of Paterson; Bret Petersen, 36, of New Rochelle, NY; and Eustice McGuire, 54, of Paterson, on various drug offenses.

Police received information of a man conducting hand-to-hand drug sales outside of 48 East 13th Street and began investigating in April. Police set up surveillance in the area and observed Tinsley conducting hand-to-hand drug transactions.

Tinsley exchanged drugs for money with Petersen outside 185 5th Avenue at around 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

Police arrested Petersen at 57 East 30th Street. He allegedly had 370 glassine envelopes of heroin in his possession.

Detectives continued their surveillance and saw Tinsley make a sale to McGuire at around 12:35 p.m. outside 236 17th Avenue. McGuire was arrested and found allegedly in possession of 1 glassine envelope of heroin and 1 small plastic baggie of crack cocaine.

Tinsley was placed under arrest in front of 62 4th Avenue at around 6:10 p.m. Police also arrested Wells. Both shared Unit 4 at 48 East 13th Street.

Police said the pair was allegedly running a drug manufacturing facility. Police seized kilogram press and drug packaging materials.

Detectives seized a loaded 9mm Keltec PF-9 with five unspent rounds, two that were hollow point bullets. 3,491 glassine envelopes of heroin in the form of 70 bricks. 7 pounds of raw marijuana, 34 grams of crack cocaine, and $8,596 in suspected drug proceeds.

Police seized the cash from Tinsley.

Tinsley and Wells were each charged with 19 drug and weapons offenses.

Petersen was charged with three drug offenses and McGuire was charged with two drug possession offenses.
