After being chased by police, a city man allegedly in possession of a handgun hid under a truck to avoid arrest, according to public safety director Jerry Speziale.
Karon Kinion, 22-year-old, was arrested on weapons charges. He allegedly had a semi-automatic handgun in his possession.
Kinion was in a vehicle that was speeding and ignoring traffic signs on Mercer and Warren streets at around 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Detective John Traynor got behind the vehicle. The vehicle crashed, striking a parked vehicle. Two people got out and began to run.
Traynor began to chase the driver, Kinion, on foot through Putnam Street. The suspect tried to hide in a driveway under a parked truck.
Traynor observed him placing an object on the frame of the truck. Kinion was ordered to get out from under the truck. He complied and was placed under arrest. A handgun was recovered from under the vehicle frame, police said.
Kinion is being held at the Passaic County Jail.
