A city man was arrested and three handguns were recovered on 12th Avenue early Monday evening, according to public safety director Jerry Speziale.
Jordany Candelario-Batista, 22-year-old, has been charged with weapons offenses and possession of high capacity magazine. He was reported in the area of 12th Avenue and Straight Street in possession of a handgun at around 6:24 p.m.
Detectives approached Candelario-Batista, but he tried to flee the area on foot. He was arrested and found in possession of a .22 caliber revolver.
Subsequently, police uncovered two additional handguns. Both were loaded with high capacity magazines.
Eighteen hours earlier, two men were shot, one fatally, in the same area.
Recovered weapons are being submitted to the New Jersey State Police laboratory for further examination, police said.
