A city man was arrested allegedly in possession of a handgun early Wednesday morning, according to public safety director Jerry Speziale.

Koshawn James, 26-year-old, has been charged with weapons offenses.

Police said he was walking on Godwin Avenue near Carroll Street holding a heavy object in his sweathood pocket at around 2:20 a.m.

Detectives exited their vehicles and James began to run east on Godwin Avenue discarding a .22 caliber revolver on the ground.

James was chased down and arrested, police said.

Detectives Mohammad Bashir, Gilot Castor, and Yamil Pimienta were responsible for the successful arrest and weapon recovery.

The cops have taken at least six guns off the streets in the two months, by my count. Considering the long hot summer we’re facing I’d say that’s a pretty good start.
