The police arrested two city residents and seized a weapon and an assortment of drugs on Sunday evening, according to public safety director Jerry Speziale.
Zahkeir Carter, 21, and Briana Hall, 19, were each charged with drug offenses. Hall was additionally charged with weapons offenses, police said.
Police observed a drug transaction take place from a vehicle occupied by two people on Rosa Parks Boulevard and Pearl Street at around 6:20 p.m.
Both suspects tried to leave the area in the car, but were stopped on 16th Avenue and Carroll Street.
Police issued motor vehicle summonses.
A further investigation led to the recovery of a loaded Hi-Point 9mm semi-automatic handgun and a cache of drugs.
Police seized 169 glassine envelopes of heroin, 59 baggies of crack cocaine, 29 capsules of crack cocaine, and 112 Xanax pills, police said.
Carter and Hall were processed at headquarters and being held at the Passaic County Jail.
