Challenging school year ends with masked graduation for Paterson high school seniors

c-teague

First and foremost, I want to once again take this opportunity to congratulate each of you, the graduating class of 2020. This was undoubtedly one of the most challenging school year we have ever faced.

Needless to say, we had to become instantly innovative to contend with all the sudden changes that were thrust upon us. But I want to mention a few things to you in this letter. If you will indulge me for a few minutes.

All of our individual stories are unique in every way. My story is not that much different. From spending my early years growing up in a children’s’ shelter, to foster care, to being adopted, to having issues in school, to now presently being a prominent member of New Jersey’s activists circle and an elected official.

The point I’m trying to convey is that nothing is beyond your reach. You can attain anything you want to attain. You can go as far as you want. As I’ve stated before, let no one force you to put limits on where you want to be.

Remember, you now have the power to go out and make this world a better place. Take those keys of education and change the world. Change the world for the better. There is no better time, there is no better place, there is no perfect moment than right now to be a catalyst for change and growth in the world.

Enjoy your summer and prepare to be great. Prepare to be amazing. Prepare to stand on the shoulders of your elders and again, do everything in your power to make this world a better place.

Good luck and Godspeed.
