An alleged drug dealer from Irvington was arrested in Paterson with a handgun and half-pound of marijuana on Tuesday, according to public safety director Jerry Speziale.
Devon Williams, 21-year-old, of Irvington, has been charged with drug and weapons offenses. Police observed him at the high crime intersection of 17th Avenue and East 29 Street at around 8 p.m.
Williams allegedly placed a clear plastic bag containing marijuana into a second bag. Detectives exited their vehicle and Williams walked away and tried to hide himself in a business that was open at the time.
Police took notice of the fanny pack on his waist as he entered the business. Police followed him in and arrested him. Police seized the bags that allegedly contained 1/4 kilogram of marijuana and a loaded Kel-Tec 9mm semi-automatic handgun.
Detectives confiscated $322 in cash from Williams. Williams was taken to headquarters for processing.
Police said Williams is being held at the Passaic County Jail pending a court hearing.
