Paterson man killed in Van Houten Street double shooting identified

A city man was killed and another was wounded during a shooting on Van Houten Street on Tuesday night, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.

Authorities identified the deceased victim as 26-year-old Shaheem Jones of Paterson.

Jones and another 28-year-old Paterson man were struck by gunfire at around 8:03 p.m. on Van Houten and Summer streets.

Both victims were rushed to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center.

Jones was pronounced dead at the hospital. The second victim remains hospitalized in stable condition.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident. Anyone with information is asked to call the Paterson Police Detective Bureau at 973-321-1120.

    The corner of Van Houtan St and summer st around the library is a cesspool of drug dealers, user, prostitution and homeless all in the open in plain view police drive by and nothing gets done I know I've called the cops plenty of times but again nothing happens but I have started video recording this area about the bullshit that goes on unchecked and soon will post video online and with news organizations
