A bar in the Hillcrest section has been issued violations for allegedly selling liquor to underage patrons and allowing indoor hookah smoking.

Casanova’s Bar and Lounge was cited on Thursday for selling to underage patrons, allowing indoor hookah smoking, operating without entertainment and pool licenses, and other violations, said public safety director Jerry Speziale.

Speziale said two women were observed drinking at the bar at 176 Union Avenue when police entered. Both were later found to be underage. He said both – 17 and 19 years old — were cited for underage drinking.

Police also cited the bar’s owner and two managers.

Bar’s owner, Wilson Tavera-Reynoso, and two managers, Marilu Carranza and Guillermo A. Carranza, were issued 12 separate ordinance violations.

Casanova’s Bar and Lounge was issued a number of liquor license violations, including failing to have appropriate license paperwork, said police.

Police recovered $6,144 in proceeds the bar allegedly generated through the sale of illegal hookah, said the director.

Speziale said detectives saw a number of social distancing violations at the bar. He said the violations are being forwarded to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office for possible prosecution.
