The police recovered a handgun from a suspect during a traffic stop on Hamilton Avenue late Saturday night, according to public safety director Jerry Speziale.

Craig Tomlinson, 25, was driving a Toyota Camry with Massachusetts license plates on Godwin Avenue and Carroll Street at around 11:50 p.m. He allegedly disregarded a stop sign at the intersection.

Police followed his vehicle to Hamilton Avenue and conducted a motor vehicle stop. Upon approaching the vehicle, detectives Mustafa Dombayci and Joseph Aboyoun smelled strong odor of burned marijuana emanating from the vehicle.

Tomlinson was removed from the vehicle.

Detectives James Jenkins and Suquan Gary arrived at the scene to assist. They allegedly observed a handgun on Tomlinson’s waistband.

Police recovered a Glock .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol.

Tomlinson was charged with numerous weapons offenses and taken to headquarters for processing.

The best thing about these stories is that they serve as a vivid warning to anyone doing any kind of business in Paterson. The city has more illegal guns on the streets than you could possibly imagine! Stay away. Be safe.

Stay away be safe that's a great idea and a wonderful solution. With forward thinking like that you should run for office. What am I talking about your probably going to be our next president after Biden. What's your slogan going to be ? Make America stupid again.

You’re the same person who posted this last month. “ There is no life in Paterson let alone quality of life, there is only death.” It would logically follow then, if you wished to avoid death and “Be safe,” you would, as I said, “Stay away.”
