Patersonians are so stupid they will vote thus Mayor right back in and actually state he did a fine job.

    • HankMorgan

What are some concrete steps you’d like to see the mayor take in order to help solve the problem?

      • John Brown

        Resign!

What are some concrete steps you’d like to see the next mayor take in order to help solve the problem?

          • Paterson Resident

            stop and frisk

          • HankMorgan

You know what? I’m so morally opposed to how this tactic was weaponized against people of color in NYC that I can’t believe I’m saying this. It might work to some extent in certain neighborhoods. But I’m pretty sure there would be quite a violent backlash it was ever actually used.

          • Paterson Resident

I understand, but it's needed in Paterson

          • John

I'm born and raised in NYC, and stop and frisk saved NYC. If you were loitering at 2am in the corner it didn't matter what color you were. Stop using the racist race card on everything. Teach your kids manners and respect and to work instead of do criminal activity. Hispanic Democrats for Trump

          • HankMorgan

No race card. Stop twisting my words. Here are the facts. One, a federal judge found the New York City Police Department’s “Stop-and-Frisk” policy unconstitutional. Two, overwhelming evidence suggests that the policy is used as a method of racially profiling and harassing Black and Latino citizens. Three, in 1999, Blacks and Latinos made up 50 percent of New York’s population, but accounted for 84 percent of the city’s stops.

          • John

Another step he could take or hasn't taken. Crime is through the roof with him, more shootings then for decades. Do you still like him?

          • HankMorgan

I don’t care one way or another about the mayor. But there is no evidence that he or his administration are corrupt. I’m just not sure that he deserves all the blame for the steadily rising crime rate in Paterson. Homicides have risen in cities across the country. But there many other things factoring into the stats. Poverty, certainly. Paterson is one of the poorest cities in America. Organized street gangs. Rotten schools. High unemployment. Housing.

Steps Mayor could take or should have taken. For one he shouldn't have fired the previous Police Chief, this now cost us over 250k per year on his retirement. Especially when he was liked by the majority and kept moral better then what it is now. Instead of slapping every officer in the face by clearly back this BLM, this Mayor decided it would be best to put BLM painted on the floor right by Police Dept., what do you think this does to moral? Who in their right mind would want to work for Paterson Police Dept now, perhaps the worst of all candidates. This Mayor loves Photo ops, instead he should be working hard combating crime in this wild wild west law less city, don't believe me? Just open your eyes and drive around. It all starts with simple quality of life issues, look at how Guiliani took over a crack riddled city from David Dinkins and turned it over. The slums of Paterson are still the slums, except for a few new developments which this mayor has given 30 years tax abatement too, how can Paterson survive with no new taxes coming in while this Florii is raking in high rents with section 8. This Mayor has implemented 0 community programs where the community can actually attend every single day, community.centers. This Mayor reminds me of a slick used car salesman, he's a BS and hasn't done anything other then photo ops. His DPW take his mic stand everyday for more photo ops.

        • HankMorgan

The only comment I can make on the BLM mural and police morale is that this a trend that cities across the country have adopted in reaction to the numerous police killings of Black citizens like Breonna Taylor, Daniel Prude and George Floyd. I don’t understand the mentality that would find this offensive. And just to say the mayor’s role as a crime fighter is limited. Especially, since Paterson’s police recruits, as you say, are bottom of the barrel. Maybe that’s part of the problem. As far as I know there have been decades of tension between citizens of color and Paterson PD.
Certainly housing is a major problem deeply entwined with poverty and crime. I appreciate your point about the tax abatements. Yeah, the poor have always been targets of the “haves.”
Finally, he does seem to enjoy the photo ops. And it’s obvious that the city is in crisis. You would wish that a really smart really strong candidate would take control and present a vision for a better Paterson. It seems that Mayor McCheese isn’t the one.

Stop using the race card racist! Most.crimes.being committed in NYC are by blacks and Hispanics. This is a fact. Go to Hispanic and Black areas and then to White.areas.and you would notice this. I am 100% Hispanic and I notice this. You really have to be retarded or a racist not to know this. Why wasn't I being 100% Hispanic in NYC during the 70s 80s and 90s never targeted by Police. Perhaps because I didn't commit crimes.and wasn't hanging out in known drug locations at 2 in the morning. By you trying to ouch the race card instead of better upbringing, you are actually doing a deservice to your so called.Hispanic and Blacks.

    • HankMorgan

Name calling is not the best way to win a debate. The point you’re making is valid but doesn’t necessarily end the discussion. Let me say this. There is evidence in the official police-recorded figures that black Americans are more likely to commit certain types of crime than people of other races.
While it would be naïve to suggest that there is no racism in the US criminal justice system, victim reports don’t support the idea that this is because of mass discrimination.
Higher poverty rates among various urban black communities might explain the difference in crime rates, although the evidence is mixed
