A city woman was struck and killed in a motor vehicle crash on Memorial Drive on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.

82-year-old Mary Bitner, a pedestrian, was struck by a 2012 Toyota Corolla on Memorial Drive and Broadway at around 3:01 p.m.

Authorities said the vehicle was being operated by 21-year-old Alyssa Lorenzo of Paterson. She was traveling southbound on Memorial Drive towards Van Houten Street when she allegedly struck by Bitner.

Lorenzo remained at the scene and provided a valid driver’s license, police said.

Bitner was rushed to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center. She was pronounced dead at 5:35 p.m.

The incident remains under investigation. No charges have been filed.

Rip to this poor woman. Paterson still fails to severely enforce traffic laws despite all the pedestrians hit.i don't drive, walk everywhere. On a daily basis I see and almost become a victim of careless drivers, speeders, red light runners, etc- so if you think paterson gives a damn about you, think again.we dont even have police patrols never mind traffic monitoring and enforcement units. Just wonder where all the ridiculous high taxes we pay are used for. Time for an audit. Let the tax payers decide what their money should be spent on.
