Paterson man shot while riding as passenger in vehicle on North 1st Street

A city man was riding as a passenger in a vehicle passing through North 1st Street early Thursday evening when he was struck by gunfire, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.

The victim, 38-year-old, was struck when the vehicle was traveling through the area of North 1st and East Main streets at around 7:23 p.m.

Police arrived at the scene after receiving report of a shooting in the area. They did not find the victim. The victim was later located on Straight and Harrison streets. He sustained a gunshot wound, police said.

The victim was rushed to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center for treatment. He is in critical condition, police said.

Police continue to investigate the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call the Paterson Police Ceasefire Unit at 973-321-1342.
