Paterson Covid-19 deaths increase from 443 to 497, new data shows

The number of people who died of Covid-19 in Paterson increased from 443 to 497, according to municipal government data released on Monday.

Data shows 80 percent of the deaths were among people over 60. More men – 61 percent — than women – 39 percent — died of the virus.

Hispanics, who are the majority in Paterson, had the most deaths. 58 percent of those who died were Hispanic; 27 percent were Black; 10 percent white; 4 percent Asian; and 1 percent others.

The 1st Ward had the most Covid-19 deaths. It had 108 deaths. 3rd Ward had 96 deaths. 4th Ward had 95 deaths. 6th Ward had 76 deaths. 2nd Ward had 75 deaths. And the 5th Ward had 56 deaths, according to the data.

Cases in Paterson has been declining. Cases in the second wave peaked in late December with 640 infections. Paterson had 47 cases on Monday.
