Clifton man, who sent threatening texts to Paterson police chief, indicted

Stefan-Keco

A Clifton man, who allegedly sent threatening text messages to Paterson police chief, has been indicted.

Stefan Keco, 29-year-old, was indicted on two counts of terroristic threats. He faces a maximum of ten years in state prison if convicted.

Keco allegedly sent the text messages to police chief Ibrahim “Mike” Baycora, who is Paterson’s first Muslim and Turkish-American police chief, to intimidate him because of his religion, race, and national origin, authorities said at the time of his arrest last year. But the grand jury did not indict him on the biased intimidation charge authorities had levied against him.

Keco has been lodged in the Passaic County Jail since his arrest in February 2020. His arraignment is scheduled before judge Sohail Mohammed on March 22, 2021.
