Paterson man gets 7-year prison sentence for fatal hit-and-run

Jesus-Herrera

A city man has been sentenced to seven years in state prison for a hit and run that led to the death of a man.

Jesus Herrera, 66-year-old, was convicted on leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in death and endangering an injured victim by a jury on January 17, 2020. He was sentenced to seven years in state prison on Friday.

Herrera was driving a 1997 GMC Sierra truck on November 11, 2017 at around 9:17 p.m. on Main Street.

48-year-old Luis Arango was crossing the roadway in front of 910 Main Street.

Herrera struck Arango.

Herrera did not stop. He left the scene. A civilian witness chased him down, forcing him to return to the scene.

Arango died from his injuries.

Does not matter if it was an accident or not – he left the scene of the accident and as a result, the person he hit died.
