The police recovered a loaded handgun tossed by a fleeing suspect on Park Avenue on Thursday night, according to public safety director Jerry Speziale.

Police said the suspect was observed on a cellphone yelling profanities in front of a liquor store at around 9:33 p.m. Police officers approached the suspect to conduct a field interview.

The suspect pushed a police officer and began to flee on foot onto 16th Avenue. As he fled, the suspect threw a loaded Beretta 22 caliber handgun into the rear yard of 233 Straight Street.

Police searched the area but could not locate the suspect. They recovered the loaded weapon and sent it to the state crime lab for analysis.
