A man arrested last summer for carrying a gun on Godwin Avenue pleaded guilty to a weapon charge on Thursday.
Koshawn A. James, 27, of Paterson, pleaded guilty to certain persons not to have a weapon, before Passaic County judge Imre Karaszegi. He admitted he had a .22 caliber handgun in his pants pocket on June 10, 2020.
James was previously convicted on a drug offense on April 23, 2012. He was prohibited from having a handgun as a result of that conviction.
As part of the plea deal, James will spend five years in state prison before parole eligibility, according to Passaic County assistant prosecutor Alex Cirocco.
James said he went up to the 11th grade during the court hearing.
James is scheduled to be sentenced on June 11 at 9 a.m.
