A Clifton man was sentenced to three years of probation for sending threatening text messages to Paterson police chief.

Stefan Keco, 29-year-old, previously pleaded guilty to two counts of terroristic threats. He was sentenced on Friday.

Keco has been ordered to get counseling and not have any contact with police chief Ibrahim “Mike” Baycora.

On February 26, 2020, Keco sent the text messages to Baycora, first Muslim and Turkish American police chief in Paterson, to intimidate him because of his religion, race, and national origin, according to authorities.

In one text Keco wrote, “Going to kill you f–king terrorist.” In another, he wrote, “We are tracking your every move.”

A grand jury refused to indict Keco on the biased intimidation charge. Instead, he was indicted on two terroristic threats charges.

Keco spent more than a year in the Passaic County Jail after making the threats.
