The police arrested two people in a drug enforcement operation on 17th Avenue, seizing heroin, crack cocaine, handgun, and a bullet proof vest, according to public safety director Jerry Speziale.

Jacquise Smith, 39, and Tyisha Villafane, 36, both of Paterson, were arrested on drugs and weapons offenses.

Smith and Villafane were in a BMW parked on 17th Avenue and East 24th Street at around 8:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Villafane was the driver and Smith was the passenger in the vehicle. Police observed Smith approach a waiting vehicle to conduct a drug transaction.

Police tried to stop both vehicles, but the buyer quickly drove out of the area. Police made contact with the BMW still parked at 160 17th Avenue.

Smith was observed hiding drugs, police said. He was escorted out of the vehicle with Villafane.

Police seized 104 glassine envelopes of heroin, 46 vials of crack cocaine, a Sig Sauer 9MM handgun with laser sight loaded with 18 rounds. They also seized additional ammunition, including hollow point bullets, and a bullet proof vest in the operation.

That man who allegedly got away most likely is an undercover cop. If they were watching the deal go down, they would have documented the license plate.
